wedding ceremony - exchanging rings

Regardless of where you choose to have your wedding, the moment when you exchange rings and vows with your partner is the highlight of everybody’s day – especially yours!

Stationery you might need for the ceremony:

  • Ceremony programs (Order of Service booklets) or
  • Order of Proceedings cards
  • Signs for the church or other venue

See “quicklinks” above for relevant pages

Whether your wedding is held in a church, on a beach, in a garden, in your backyard, at a fancy hotel or other venue, it’s a good idea to have some kind of program for your guests as they arrive, so that they know the sequence of events. These may be presented in a basket, left on the seats or given out by ushers at the entrance to the venue where the ceremony is being held. We usually recommend providing these for at least 70-75% of the people you expect to attend. While some couples will be happy to share, others may want their own copy, and it’s always better to have too many than not quite enough.

Order of Service booklets or cards may include the names of the bridal party, musicians, clergy or celebrant, the order of events, and sometimes readings and songs. Some couples like to include a favourite poem or quote, others honour deceased relatives, thank special people or explain unfamiliar religious or ceremonial rites. The program is something that many guests will keep, so it’s important that it reflects you, as a couple – your values, your beliefs, and of course your style and personality. It’s an occasion to be remembered, after all!
